Sam's Success Continues

Sam added to his silverware collection with two great victories at the St Mellion International and the Stoneham Trophy. Rounds of 69, 74, 72 and 74 secured victory in the prestigious St Mellion International Amateur Trophy (Tuesday-Thursday), and just two days later the 18-year-old blitzed the field and Stoneham's testing course with scores of 67 (-5) and a record-equalling 63 (-9) to lift the Stoneham Trophy. Congratulations from everyone here at Hedge End Golf Centre.

SAM HUTSBY produced the most impressive week of his career
to finish tied fourth in the Brabazon Trophy.

Hutsby, 18, from Lee-on-the-Solent,
battled through pre-qualifying
before pushing the world's number
one amateur, Jamie Moul, for the
title at the Forest of Arden Golf
Club, Coventry.
The England international, who now plays out of Liphook Golf Club, shot rounds of 71, 71, 70 and 73 to finish three under. It saw him pick up the George Henriques Trophy for the top Great Britain and Ireland under-20 player and join an illustrious list of past winners including Lee Westwood and Sandy Lyle.

Dad Bruce believes his British Strokeplay Championship display was his son's finest achievement to date. Bruce said: 'He had to pre-qualify and then play with guys of that calibre in really blustery conditions. He did fantastically well.

'When he got the trophy we couldn't believe the list of names on it – 75 per cent of the guys on it have gone on to play on the European Tour. 'When Sam won the Spanish Amateur it was big – but it was matchplay. This was strokeplay where you are up against everybody.'

'He had David Adams from Hedge End driving range caddying for him and Sam said he was awesome. He made a difference.'

Hutsby recently came 25th in the Lytham Trophy, finished fourth in the Selborne Salver, had a bad round in the Hampshire Hog before shooting the lowest round in the afternoon.
